Village Coffee is a Sydney-based independent roaster importing green beans directly from smallholder farmers in the Papua New Guinea highlands. Founded by Pana Wiya – who grew up in a PNG coffee-growing village – the business exists to deliver a better deal for the families who grow it.
Mainstream coffee brands pay growers only 2-3% of retail prices, even though farmers do more than 70% of the work in the coffee chain. Village Coffee lifts that share to 15-20%, providing fair income for families and funding village development projects across PNG. The beans are 100% organic, grown in volcanic-rich highland soils at 1,000–1,700 metres, and roasted in small batches at the company’s Sydney facility.
